Process
CARS™ has the capacity to rate CDFIs on request but gives preference to those institutions that are specifically requested by investors. For priority consideration, CDFIs should ask their existing or prospective investors to contact CARS™ to request a CARS™ rating for their organization.
CDFIs interested in scheduling a rating should contact at 206.328.6110 to discuss the ratings process, the related fee, contract terms, and scheduling.
Requirements
CARS™ currently rates CDFI loan funds with a minimum of five years of lending activity. CDFIs do not need to be certified by the U.S. Treasury Department’s CDFI Fund and do not need to be members of Opportunity Finance Network.

Costs / Contract Terms
CARS™ has a three-tiered pricing structure for CDFIs based on their total assets—the larger the CDFI, the higher the fee. The three tiers are:
- Less than $15 million,
- $15 million to $50 million, and
- More than $50 million in assets.
The fee covers the entire three-year rating period including the full analysis and two subsequent annual reviews.
